important: how dangerous are concussions

I live in a college dorm and the guy across the hall from me had been drinking a whole lot tonight. About 2 hours ago he slipped on a skateboard and hit his head pretty hard on a concrete step, might be a concussion, might not. It's too difficult to tell since he's somewhat incoherent. Right now he's still pretty messed up, probably disoriented from both the alcohol and the hit.

He's about ready to pass out. How dangerous would it be if he fell asleep? People have told me that he needs to stay awake for at least 10 hours with an icepack if it really was a concussion, and that would probably mean me staying with him.

Sucks to be you. Nothing like taking care of a drunk with a concussion. He owes you big forever.

I'm not sure what happens if you fall asleep. I got a bad one where I got KO'd as a kid. I woke up not knowing where I was or how I got there. So maybe that's it. 🙂

Damn.

Well his roommate just got back so I'm off the hook. He's not really sleeping yet cause I think he got a bit of mild alcohol poisoning.

You mean besides being potentially fatal?

And the fact that he is drunk and that masks symptoms? Nah, he will be fine.

Take the dumbass to get checked out at the ER.

Do NOT let him fall asleep at all costs!! Alcohol + concussion = trip to ER, hell just a concussion should be enough to go to the ER just to make sure there isn't any hemorrhaging up there.

A concussion mixed with alchohol poisoning is *REAL* bad. Get him to the ER.

he definitely needs to be taken to the ER ASAP!

The most important thing is to make sure that he does not have hemorrhage somewhere. If he hit his temporal area there's an artery in that area that is particularly easy to rupture.

A cconcussion is a serious injury! If not treated properly there could be other serious consequences later on (such as seizures, paralysis, etc.)

When Ihad my concussion when I was 8 or so I couldn't stop puking. For some reason my body sarted getting rid of everything in my stomach. And I was having dry heaves also painful.
