I think i have found the answer to an issue that many are having with crashing in intensive 3D applications/Games/Areo etc. To make a long story short many high end power supplies such as the Hiper Type-R 580 can sustain moderate damage to capacitors on the dedicated video card rail under peek extended usage with high end cards such as the 8800 series. These capacitors can still hold a charge for a time and are still somewhat functional so games will work part of the time and fail at others. Also since the pcix16 card gets its 2d power directly from the pcix16 slot the 3d system will often fail but the 2d os environment is still stable. If you suspect this to be the case swap your pcix16 rail with another.
Sustained peek usage is a spec often overlooked by many hardware sites reviewing power supplies. I certainly overlooked it when i bought this Hiper earlier in the year. Also i posted this in the video forum because most people encountering this issue will at first suspect the video card.
If you find this to be the solution please bump this thread. I believe many 8800 owners are having this problem and don't yet know it.
