I'm tentatively speccing out an AM3 system, how important/valuable do you think having 'true' dual x16 PCIe will be in the next few years?
At present I think the option of unhindered SLI/Xfire is nice, but by no means a necessity (Last I checked x16/x16 vs x8/x8 dual GPU solutions were like +10-15% performance at best, correct me if that's dated), and I think that's the only use for that 'much' PCIe that I would have, and probably a lot of other consumers as well.
Is there anything on the [distant] horizon to plan ahead for?
What I'm thinking is that in year or two I'd like to be able to update my system if I feel the need to and be able to 'keep up' without too much of a makeover.
