Importance of eating many small meals instead of fewer larger ones?

This thread pertains to weightlifting and eating habits.

I'm not specifically asking WHAT to eat, I'm just asking the importance of eating many small meals instead of fewer larger meals.

A while back I lost a bunch of weight by going low carb. This worked great for losing weight, but it's a PITA to gain muscle while you're losing weight. Now I want to pack on some muscle without gaining a lot of fat. I've been eating more for the last couple months or so and I am gaining muscle, but there is definitely fat that come along with that. I'm one of those people who gains a lot of strength from lifting but doesn't gain a lot of mass easily. Right now I'm about 175-180 lbs, and I'm about 5'10.

I try to eat healthy but I tend to eat 1 or 2 big meals per day instead of 6 small meals like some fitness magazines say you should. What is the importance of that, and how important is it? I want to eat more to gain muscle but I want my fat gain to be minimal.

Thanks.

Eating fewer but larger meals can slow your metabolism down. A while back, I used to eat 6 meals a day. I'd eat smaller sized breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In between meals, I ate stuff like baby carrots and celery. I dropped a lot of weight on that diet plus exercise.

Hmm, interesting...

I have noticed that lately I feel cold all the time, I wonder if my metabolism has slowed down due to my eating habits?
