Import DVDs on Ebay...specifically X-Files - Thoughts?

I found some auctions for 7 seasons of the X-Files on DVD ("Asia Collector's Edition") and was wondering if anyone's dealt with these before.

They appear to be boxed editions, but the fact that some of them have "51 discs" and some have "55 discs" boggles me.

Most auctions also say DVD-9 format so they don't seem to be cheap dupes either.

Any suggestions on what I should look for in buying these?

Sample link? A friend of mine did the same thing with episodes of "Friends". The bootlegs are usually pretty professional looking..........

I've just been spending the extra money and getting the US ones (only have the first two seasons so far). I don't want to end up with something that has some other region code... or title screens in chinese... or audio dubbed in some language I can't understand.

- Chinese language on box only
- English language and subs
- Region Free
- First 4 seasons in Pan/Scan, others in Anamorphic
- Free copy of the Xfiles movie.

Considering this SEVEN SEASON set runs about $120-190 shipped whereas EACH SEASON is >$100 for the US version, I'll take my chances.

If you do buy it, let me know how it works out, cause like you said, these are kinda expensive :)

They're pirated and not paying royalites, so they're not any more honest than getting the episodes off of P2P. Probably more convenient than DLing 80 GB though.

And better quality.

I have a bunch of these "Chinese retail" dvds as I call them, no problems for me, menus and all are same as US version.

Don't.. I happened to buy one of these because the price.. the quality is just crap.. almost like if they went to a printer and got cheap color copies.. I was able to buy seaons 1, 2 and 3 (the official us versions) for 60 bux each but I had to be very patient.. I'm still looking for seasons 4 and 5 for around that price ... just be patient and wait for the good deals... check every day or two especially for the buy it nows at 55 bux plus shipping you got a nice deal.

Don't get bootlegs. You'll be tracked down by the Paranormal Investigative Division of the FBI.

Ummmm...yes! I mean, no, definitely no, definitely no. Well, maybe just a little bit yes. A smattering of yes is definitely called for.

I bought 2 malaysian Episode II DVDs for cheap they were bad audio and visual but the packaging was first class.

I'd buy then resell if you don't want them. Except if they are a bootleg you need to have a buy it now price and hope someone buys it before ebay cancels the auction as they do with some bootlegs.
