Impending RAM upgrade?

I don't really game much, and I have RAID0 raptors so disk access hasn't been a problem, but with the new WME coming out soon and the possibility (or even probability) of Vista in the not-so-distant future it seems 512MB memory will obsolete my PC. I primarily stress it with multimedia (ffdshow and dscaler, music encoding, some video encoding). This is my system.
Asus p4P800-Dlx
3.0C @218 FSB 1:1
2x256MB HyperX 3500 @ 2-2-3-5-4
9700AIW
Things that don't matter so much
Primary HDD: 2x36GB Raptor RAID0
Sec. HDD: 200GB Seagate 7200
XFi Platinum
Antec Tru 480

My problem with memory is that it is a dead end upgrade at this point (aside from resale of my PC once I upgrade). I'd like to keep the upgrade to around $150, but I'd kick in more if I had to. Any recommendations on total/config./brand/model?

i JUST got 2x1GB of G.Skill PC4000 ram that has 3-4-4-8 timings (not bad for 1GB sticks), and they overclock to 283FSB, and for my 2.4C, that equals 3.4Ghz! they are $180 at newegg.

or 2x512MB will be fine for you if you dont need 2GB. get some PC4000 if you like to overclock and since you have a p4 (p4s love memory bandwith).

linky for ram.

Just look around the FS/T forums here, there's always a lot of people selling RAM at good prices, especially if you don't want to spend too much money on it.

Hey, I was wondering what was up with the G. Skill. It's getting hard to find memory manufacturers testing their new stuff on this board anymore. That's about where my 2.4 topped out (except on a 5:4). I figue anything beyong PC 3700 won't do me much good with my current cooling (7000CU, older style, ATCS mid-tower case) but the PC4000 sure has some good reviews.

I really don't go into the FS/FT forums much since I don't have a Heatware rating (is that what they still use?). Still, it'd seem a good option. I'll check it out, thanks for the help!
