iMovie import questions

I had been importing directly from my HD camera to iMovie 9/11 but the AVCHD files would often hang during the editing process. I would constantly quit/restart iMovie or re-import the clips to get them going again.

I then did some research (from my own thread here) that iMovie doesn't play nice with the AVCHD files. So I went and bought VoltaicHD and converted the AVCHD files. After the conversion was done I imported them into iMovie with no issues.

My main question is: once the clips are imported can I delete them (off my desktop)? Are the clips saved within the app's folder? Or once I delete them from my desktop then they'll be gone?

When you import, you are given the option to Copy or Move the source files. If you choose copy, then the originals are left in the folders. If you choose move, then the files are moved into the iMovie folder I believe. I'd have to test to see how everything plays out in reality, but it goes something like that. iirc the last time I chose Move the files were still in the original folders, so I would verify that before actually committing to a new workflow.

Also, isn't iMovie 11 awesome? I'm really impressed with the new features!

Yep, I just checked and by default its set to "copy files". I'm still a little hesitant to delete the folder. I'm trying to see if I can find the folder the has the copied clips.

Yes, iMovie 11 is awesome. I really love the trailers. My family is going crazy over the couple that I made.

I'm also trying to find out if there is a way to put the trailer splash screen (highdef films) in my regular movies.

I'm having a little bit of an issue with voltaicHD. I convert the clips and import them into iMovie I can see some sort of blurring.

Not sure if this is a de-lacing issue or something else but it only is happening during fast motion sequences.

I went back into VoltaicHD and changed the settings to deinterlace and convert to 24p. The clips are converting now so hopefully that'll fix it.
