I think so are reading into this too much. Pretty sure when the sun swells into a red giant and vaporizes Earth, you're going to be screwed too. The OP's post does not specify you to be indestructible, just 'You don't get hurt or sick'. Blasting your atoms across the cosmos goes beyond that.

for the sake of discussion, what if humanity continues on indefinitely through traveling to new places in space?

I don't know. That could lead to some very fun things. Skydiving without a parachute, sea diving without tanks... You could whore yourself out to do dangerous work that would be impractical with robots. Also, once humans developed enough, you could take off in a ship to see what the hell's out there.
