Ok, dying sucks. Suppose Cthulhu or some other capable entity offered you immortality.

The conditions-
You never get sick.
You never get hurt.
You don't age.

You remain in perfect health, forever. There is no changing your mind. It's impossible to end you existence by any means whatsoever.

Do you take the offer or no?

I voted yes, but now that I think about it....

What happens when all life goes extinct on this planet? You'd be pretty lonely :(

When you say "never get hurt" does that mean no physical pain? :hmm:

Hmm what if we were given the power to grant that others that as well
Would be pretty high on the suck scale though after everything in the universe is gone in something like10^100 years. :(
Not even a single proton left or anything.
So would have to throw in creating matter/energy as well. :p

Lol people who answer yes are completely clueless

Think about infinity for a moment... People have this idea that infinity is "a really long time", but we are talking INFINITE here, you will NEVER die, can you even grasp that idea?

Its scary as hell, so the answer is obviously no

Do I lose my memory if I go through some traumatic experience that would kill mortals? Over time, I suppose I could use body art to communicate with my different incarnations. Although, I imagine by that time, I would be badly scared and only a floating skull would be willing to keep me company.

Do you get superhuman strength?

No. Imagine if the universe is open-ended. You'd spend infinity floating in a vaccuum, unable to die.

No. Would suck to be around FOREVER once everyone else is gone. What to do when there is no Earth?

I'm looking forward to death. Humanity sucks.

Knowing my luck, the day I was granted immortality, I'd find myself fallen down a 6 mile mine shaft and buried with no hope of ever getting out.

I remember when things were simple, uncomplicated
Just me and my old friends
Seems so long ago
You think it would never change
It would always be the same
To never grow old
Long ago...all alone
Say goodbye to all you know
To never be the same again
Say hello to broken hope
And hope to make the best of what's left

Ah well, your body may never die but eventually you'd go so insane that your mind may as well have :D

I think we are all actually immortal already. We are stuck in the purgatory of Earth and when we actually die, or what we think is death, we just go to another level of purgatory.

I'm more for the robotic body form of things, where I don't die from any natural or unnatural causes, only if there is no ability to replace parts or reload my image.

Its fairly popular to warn about the dangers of immortality, but no one is immortal so its sort of hollow.

Plenty of terrible and depressing things happen on a daily basis. My sister died when she was 17 and that certainly left its mark on me, but I am able to appreciate life nonetheless. If it happened many times over I'm sure that I would still be OK. Some things hurt quite a bit, but that doesn't mean life would no longer be worth living.

To add to the dicussion:

How many people would accept immortality if it was modified so that they could pull the plug when they wanted to?
