Actually, I agree with your post 100%. It's big business, my wife is a research nurse, and the moeny that these drug and device companies spend on smoozing the docs to get their stuff used is disgusting. The medicare and other payments rules are beyond comprehension, and seem to never be consistent or make sense. And I would never be a person to consider physicians as :angels of mercy" 
It seems that most doctors become doctors because they want to treat patients, but they end up having to also manage their business practice, which is something they didn't train in and most of the time, don't want to do. This is just one more problem in the whole system.
