imdb vs rotten tomatoes

I go to IMDb Top 250 to find movies to rent. Rotten Tomatoes/MetaCritic are also a nice source to figure out some selections.

I think James Berardinelli is one of the best reviewers out there. I mostly agree with his ratings. Isn't the type of reviewer to slam a Farelly Brothers comedy just because it is a Farelly Brothers comedy (I mean, he gave Me Myself & Irene 3/4 stars).

I like Meta Critic too, but mostly for everything *but* movies.

Hmm his ratings seem pretty good but "Because I said So" and "Blood Diamond" on the same level? please...

I love IMDB. Sometimes, if I see a familiar looking actor, I'll look him up on IMDB.
"Ohhhh, so that's where I've seen him."

I swear, I visit IMDB on a daily basis. Sometimes several times a day.

Just did that to look up Robert Picardo, the Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager. Wanted to see if that was him on the episode "Weight of the World" in "The 4400." Turned out it was. 🙂

I probably visit IMDB a hundred times for every RT visit.

I love IMDB, that's where I go. BTW, does anyone think the new IMDB layout sucks? I just can't get used to it.

self motivated fanboys will vote something on imdb into a rating it doesn't deserve. so like online polls its rather worthless.

Last time I checked you only got one vote per movie per account.

I read RT but I generally disagree almost 75% of the time. Prof Critics are usually clowns. Not to mention I sometimes really disagree with their splat or fresh.

RT is slow and buggy as hell a lot of the time but that's where I go unless it's for detailed movie related information, then I'll probably go to IMDB (only because it's usually the first Google hit).

RT review scores ( e.g. 142 fresh / 24 rotten 7.6 ) are a composite and tell you something. The reviews at the home page are not their own reviews, just those of professionals here and there, mostly in newspapers and other media sources.

The forums are a kind of free for all and a good place to find out what movie buffs think about various things. You can find out what people think of a movie you watched or have mixed feelings about. Just don't use the RT search engine. It's worthless. Use Boardtracker instead and set it to search RT.
