imaging / ghost/ v2i protector softwares

Hello all

For those that are using norton ghost or symantecs v2i protector(used to be powerquest) . After you make the image for backup. If you were to use that image lets say on another machine how would it react after i put it on?? Is this backup method only good for the machine that has the same hardware etc... ?

The reason i asked is because i like the imaging backup part, but if i put these images onto a tape drive and bring it offsite to use on another server with different specs whats going to happen??

The main problem is drivers, their is a system prepartion tool that microsoft has designed which helps. It's located on the CD under support/tools.
