Imagine the possibilities (Shuttle SN40 + Radeon 9700 AIW)

I found it a little odd there only one post makes mention of Shuttle's SN40, ya know, that down-right sexy nForce2 mini-PC. There are other photos of the SN40 innards, but I can't find the link now. I believe they were ripped from Watch Impress, tho.

Let's say we do away with the onboard video and throw in a Radeon 9700 AIW. Personally, I would like one more 5.25" bay and possibly SoundStorm to move all of the audio connectors to the back. Throw away the PS/2 ports while you are at it. Give me one of those SFF Tbreds too, until Hammer comes along. SerialATA would be huge, as well, I guess.

Is anyone at Shuttle listening?

i don't think the radeon would fit. PS might explode too.

I know it's definately caught my eye! I wish they'd make two versions: Onw ith 1AGP 1PCI and one with 2xPCI.
If it's nForce2 with GF4MX core, that's plenty fast for MOST folks!
But AGP with an 8500 or even 9700 in there..... (or Ti4200).... wow. Nice, portable, fast, awesome! And not too hot either with a new XP processor and that awesome new cooling setup they have! Just don't overclock ANYTHING! ;)

Darn realists comin' in here messin' with my hopes and dreams, ... :p

Maybe a cooling miracle will appear before the retail channel is full of these.

On a somewhat related topic, does Shuttle just sell the FlexATX mobos that they are putting in these miniPCs? I think the only one I've seen is the FV24 that was in the original box (SV24, I think).

I gotta say,...

I hope these mini shuttle things are here to stay.

with a good design and a bit of work on the airflow I reckon this would be nice (in the future)

Nforce hammer chipset.
Hammer @ whatever speed
AGP 8x port - R300 / R350 / NV35 in there. (I'm thinking 6+ motnhs from now)
Liteon burner / reader
Floppy / whatever
USB 2, serial ATA, firewire, INFRA RED (important I feel) and maybe even wireless?!?!
120gb+ WD (8mb cache) hard disk - serial ATA

That would be incredible,... I'd have to have one - I'm just a bit curious about the power supply in these baby shuttle machines - I mean there's only so much you can do with X amount of space :( - maybe make it 5 - 10% bigger if need be? - it would still be quite small.....

I don't know about the SN40, but Shuttle did list an AGP mini-system a day ago. The SS51G is a P4 based mini-system with an AGP slot. Of course I go to their website today, and its not linked on the frontpage anymore. No idea why.

Anyway, I'd prefer a P4 version of the mini-system due to the heat generated by the Athlons. Note: I have two Athlons at home, so its not like I am an Intel fanboy.

Quiet you, you fanboy! :|

Heh, no, I agree with you actually. It would be much cooler and quiet...and even leave the possibility for overclocking a little. :)

one word, breathtaking....

This would make the Ultimate SFF machine, if it has a big enough power supply.

Hope that new unit uses the new cooling setup they have on the SS-40. You guys see that setup? wOOt! :D It's awesome! Should be both super-quiet and really "cool" cooling! :)

I'm thinking that a platform like the SN40 is very close to becoming the perfect home theatre PC (HTPC). If you will take advantage of S/PDIF-out, sound shouldn't be a problem. LAN and FireWire/USB2 are nice features to have integrated. Integrated video would suffice, but having an open AGP slot is always a good thing. HDTV tuner/capture and DVI-out may be the only thing you'd need to add.

Sure, Shuttle's miniPC cases are lookers, but think about a FlexATX nForce2 platform in something like a DIGN case that perfectly matches your other HT devices. With a larger case, heat and airflow can be handled a little better. Heck, maybe even watercooling can be considered then. :)

BTW, I recently read that ALL future miniPC mobos from Shuttle will have an AGP slot (P4 and AMD).

Are there any motherboards selling that take the Athlon SSF? Will they be limited to laptops?

Here are the other photos I couldn't find earlier.

Updated dream list for SN40 Rev. 2 :))):

Takes Athlon SFF (via socket adapter?) .. and later Hammer in a new model
No onboard video OR DVI output from mobo
Serial ATA
Still want one more 5.25" bay
Move optical audio to back
No PS/2
Second Ethernet port not really needed
SoundStorm
Just sell the mobo
