It is sad if you grew up idolizing this guy as a baeball player and all around nice guy. He was one of the keys in ushering the era of the Long ball in the early 90s. You Tiger fans will remember his ABs at Tiger stadium. During the course of a game, everyone would be milling around, going for hotdogs or soda, or just chatting throughout the game. When Cecil came up, everyone just stopped. People would halt in the middle of the stairs, shut up, and watch in awe of the raw power as this man took his cuts at pitches. When he hit one deep, it was truly a site to behold. Big Daddy was as loved in his hey dey as Steve Yzerman is loved today.
On top of that he was always a very nice guy and good in the community. I still have his autograph from the 30 seconds that I got to meet him and it was truly one of my best childhood memories. It's not sad because some rich guy screwed up, it's sad because a really good man with seemingly the perfect life fell into the addiction trap and lost everything.
I wish Big Daddy all the best on his road to recovery.
