I have everything perfect for my web page but 1 thing that i cant figure out...
I set my background color with a hex value and made my images in photoshop with the same hex value. when i view it on my computer the color matches but when i view my page on other computers the color in the photos i made are a slight deffernt shade. I have tried differnt file formats and everything i can think of, but the color always looks a little off. If anybody has any idea please either email me or respond to this post! thanks

thats always going to happen, not all monitor are calibrated the same, also, programs like photoshop have more colors available to play with, that sometimes you can not get with other programs.

sorry, stick to the basic web colors, those will give you the best results.

yeah, try to stick with basic web colors. i have a pretty crappy monitor at work with a crappy display adapter and nothing i do comes out right on that computer. whites turn to grays and pictures get smeared...its horrible.

but why would that make the background look different than the image color? Shouldn't they both look the same crappy color on a crappy monitor?

I am using web colors only. In photoshop their is an option to pick only web colors, that is what i am using yet it still makes no differnce. They have the exact same hex values, so they should look the same on every monitor/vid card setup. I can understand their being differnces between monitors because some monitors are older and such. I dont care how it looks on differnt monitors (lighter or darker than origianl), i just want the shades to match when viewing the page, they should since they are the same hex code....

edit:

here is an example

I can see the difference too. That's odd.

Could it be that the picture is a jpeg and the exact hex values have been changed slightly in the compression process.

Try to do the same page with a bmp and post the url again.. that way we can rule out jpeg compression problems.

Web colors are only 8 bits (maximum for any RGB component is FF = 255 = 8Bits.

Are you creating your pictures using colors pulled only from an 8 bit pallete?

ok,i posted .bmp file under the .jpg file. I'm using 8 bits and web color only in photoshop. one other thing, I'm using photoshop 6.0 beta, could it maybe have a bug in it? I also changed the color on my oldest monitor to 24 bit and it looked almost perfect. i can notice a differnce between 16 bit and 24. This is only on my oldest monitor though. I tried the same thing on another newer 15" monitor and there was no differnce. arghh!!

ok, as i was typing this i decided to check my main computer...
I have a diamond viper 2 32 meg vid card and a new DigiView 19" monitor, i had my color set at 32 bit true color, i changed it to 16 bit and instantly i could now see the color diffence on my computer too! so obviously it has something to do with the amount of bits viewable on the monitor. but how do i get the colors to match in 16 bit mode? i guess i should make all my pages in 16 bit mode then.

If I look very closely and carefully I could make out the image. If I wasn't looking for it, I wouldn't notice it though.

have you tried screen capturing that page then using the teardropper function in PS6 to see what the colors are for both the picture and the background?

I could also barely make out the position of the image but it didn't look like a colour problem. It almost looks as though the image is a degree lighter than the background, not in colour but more like a different "contrast" or something similar to that.
