Ive been trying to do a backup image of a node on my home LAN to my servers HD but when i run the bootdisk which i created with Imagecast using the DOS drivers off the FA312's driver disk it will not communicate with the server :( Ive tried using both DR DOS and also supplied Imagecast with Win98 boot files etc but no change.
The node is connected to a switch which has a standard UTP cable (not crossover) connected to the uplink port (uplink button engaged) which runs upstairs to my server via a hub. This uplink cable is plugged into the uplink socket on this hub, but the uplink button is not engaged as only one of them needs to be active to create the crossover for the uplink yeah?
Seems strange how i can browse this PC fine, and transfer files no prob, but Imagecast over this network link is a no go! :(

Ive tried drivers for (any) Netgear nic, and also NE2000 compatible but still no go.

Could the cause of this be the FA312 nic? as my other PC's using D-Link 530tx's have no such prob! hmmm? I aint got a spare nic at the moment so trying another is a non starter until i get hold of another.

If anyone can offer me some advice for getting round this prob would be a great help :)

thanx,

rockhard =)

Have you updated your Imagecast to the latest version (I believe it is 4.2). If not, do that. Then, make a win98 boot disk and tell imagecast to use your boot files. Then, use the Netgear PCI drivers that imagecast comes built in with. That should do the trick for you.. Of course, you have to have your IP/Subnet set up correctly or you won't get squat.

thanx Agamar

Ive tried all you suggested and still no joy :(
Beginning to think its a IRQ/Int issue with my KT7raid. Looks like im going to have to try a little PCI slot juggling, maybe thats the cause?
Grrr, i hate opening up my PC and playing about - i just want it to go, no fuss :|
Heh, at least my little blue screwdriver gonna get some exercise :D

appreciated,

I had this problem with a few machines before. Some just would not work.. I ended up taking another hard drive, doing a disk to image clone to the 2nd drive, then burning that image to CD-R.

Make sure you have your bios set for PNP btw. Sometimes that messes it up.

Agamar Heh, reckon the KT7 and FA312 just dont like each other? hmmm? When i get some spare time i'll try the FA312 in my server and see if it really is the NIC or the KT7. I have had some trouble with an Adaptec 1502 SCSi card that my scanner runs off which i cannot resolve with this motherboard. Maybe time to bin this flakey Abit junk :)

I'll try your suggestion of using a spare HD temporarily for doing a mirror image then do a CDR image from that :)

Thanx for your help, much appreciated :)
