Image tearing in The Thing?

Just started playing the Thing and quickly noticed image tearing, which I don't normally see in D3D games; only OpenGL and for which the fix is very simple, turn V-Sync on, either in the driver or a game-specific command in the config file.

But how do I turn on V-sync for something in D3D? I have other D3D games but none of them suffer from image tearing...any ideas? Also, anyone know how to check the fps?

Other than that, do you like this game? I'm thinking about buying . . . but I don't know. I may just wait for the bargain bin.

I'm actually getting very into it. I did fix the image tearing, and now am fully enjoying it. Very immersive, not really scary but extremely moody and lots of flamethrower action. And I think the engine is really impressive, the lighting is awesome. If you like Undying and Half-Life single player, I think you'll enjoy this....

Isn't the combat sort of funky? I've heard it's not the typical first-person shooter, it's more, walk around, out pops a monster, go into combat "mode", etc.

I think initially it was perceived as funky because it was cloned from the PS2 version which doesn't have mouse-look. For PC gamers, this feels exceedingly strange as you're only able to look around on a horizontal level. But just recently a patch-one of the greatest patches issued in the history of gaming IMO-added a mouse-look mode making it a hundred times more immersive and playable. So if you get it, don't even start it without snagging both Patch 1.1 (which fixed some sort of sound problem with the cutscenes) and Patch 1.2 (which adds mouselook). Cheers!
