Image gallery that allows multiple file uploads at the same time?

Coppermine doesn't 🙁 It gets really annoying when you have an album to upload. Any recommendations?

Mine allows you to upload a zip file containing jpegs (or any of the other formats it supports) and it will decompress them for you.

coppermine has batch upload for admin only.. you need ftp access to the server to do it. My guests don't have ftp access, well my provider doesn't allow anonymous ftp that is.

hm.... that's okay for medium level users but my friends, some of them, wouldn't know how to create a zip file. 🙁 any other more user friendly solutions?

I said my friends. I don't want to have to teach everybody that wants to use my web host for pictures how to create a zip file.

Gallery has this. As long as the person has permission to upload to an album (which you set), they log in, click on upload pictures and can select up to 10 at a time.

You do have to give them an account and access first though (just in Gallery, not the server).

Do you really think it's any harder than teaching them to upload files through a website? It's just select > right click > add to zip

you under esimate the stupidity of the computer illiterate... honestly. I had to spend half an hour with my friend on how to upload ONE picture in coppermine, and she goes to YALE!

There is no real good way to upload multiple files to a server. There is a Java applet that does it but it's ugly and slow. You can do it with ActiveX too but that limits your audience. For my site I support zip uploads as well. I agree that most users are too stupid to do it but my users tend to be fairly tech-savvy.

gallery seems to have the right idea, 10 photo's for people who don't want to deal with zip files and support for zip files AND support for FTP (admin 🙂)
Adding photos to Albums

If you have the appropriate permissions, you can add photos to an album. You can add them one at a time or up to 10 at a time using the "Add Photos" dialog. If your server has ZIP file support, a faster alternative is to upload a ZIP file full of photos and movies. A third option is to specify a web page and let Gallery go and slurp all the photos and movies off of that page for you (it'll let you pick which ones you want). A fourth option[1] is to copy images to your web server and let Gallery copy them directly into your album. As photos and movies are added to the album, Gallery will resize and make thumbnails of them for you.

I'm installing it now and see if it'll work for me... thanks bunker

I wish there was an opensource gallery that could do the zip upload like pbase has (or Notfred).

Is Gallery not considered open source? It has multiple file uploading support and zip file uploading support.

installed gallery, defaults LOOK fugly. otherwise it looks to be a winnAr! edit the pages with some spice and I tihnk I'm good to go. now the hard part, do transfering all the coppermine accounts/pictures to the new one or tell all my friends the bad news and say we're starting from scratch. 🙁

Yes the default is fugly, but I'm too damn lazy to change it 🙂.

You can give gallery the URL of your coppermine photos and it will grab them for you.

but it won't keep 'em organized in each album though... oh well too bad for them... I'll just make an album named "old albums"

i use imagestation.com. there is multiple file upload and also drag and drop uploads. you gotta sign up (free) and your guests gotta sign up. but so they dont sign up, i make up a generic login and password and give it to them

In Gallery, each album gets it's own folder. If coppermine does this then it's pretty easy to keep them organized. Create the album, select add photos, in the window that pops up (at the bottom) point it to the URL of the individual folder from coppermine.

If coppermine doesn't put them in individual folders then yes, they're SOL 🙂.
