Image doesn't fill screen after BIOS update

Trying to address a different problem, Gigabyte suggested that I update the BIOS on my GA-F2A88X-D3H mb from F1 to F3. In addition to not solving the problem, after I updated the image displayed on my monitor--Dell 2209 WA--doesn't fill the screen. Everything's there, but the image stops about 3.5" short of the right bezel.

Using AMD's Catalyst Control Center hasn't worked. I've read some posts about a similar--the same?--issue that suggest changing a setting in "My Flat Panel Display." But I see only "My VGA Display," with no option for over- or under-scanning.

The image does display fully on rebooting--I see the Gigabyte UltraDurable logo, and on entering BIOS instead of going into Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

Any thoughts?

Might this work? Currently, the monitor connects to the computer as VGA. What if I get a DVI-D to DVI-D cable and connect digitally?

I did try right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "screen resolution." As with AMD CCC, while I can choose a different resolution than the one the monitor is designed for, 1680x1050, the result is distorted and, at lower resolutions, overflows the screen.

only press auto adjust button and it will return to normal, if not you can still position image via OSD via position and pixel clock menus

The only button on the monitor that works is the power button. Pressing any other other buttons results in a locked padlock appearing on the screen.

When you open display>screen resolution, what happens when you hit the "detect" and "identify" buttons?

Windows offers options re aspect ratio re screen resolution. Have you tried them all? CAN you with this issue, try them all?

I unlocked the monitor buttons by pressing the menu button for 15 seconds. But nothing helped. Not auto identify. Not reset. Not changing screen resolution.

One curious thing, however, is that the Dell menu reports actual resolution as 1920 x 1080, even though Windows "screen resolution" and AMD CCC won't let me select beyond the stated Optimum Resolution of 1680 X 1050.

I did not find any aspect ratio setting. I did try other resolutions without any benefit.

Wow. SOOOO frustrating!:'(

I have no idea why normal choose and set aspect ratios and resolutions are not working....or, if this is some conflict in W8.1 with yr new bios or driver conflict. Can you change yr refresh rate?

Do you have another screen you might hook up?

I believe you said the image fell short of the horizontal at one end, yes? If so, that, I think, would be aspect ratio. As opposed, I mean, to some actual distortion/corruption within the image/the pixels.

Edit: in W7, as in XP you adjust aspect ratio by clicking on varying images in Resolution depicting screens. Never even went there when I was testing W8, I just assumed it was the same, cause why would they change that?

Before I installed the video drivers on my rig last year, my display did something very similar to what you are describing, and that is why I recommend removing and re-installing the drivers.

AND, given what he suggested is at the heart of the good post on this problem via the link I posted! But you will also see that uninstalling the driver can be more convoluted than the usual, and that those specifics are addressed!

I think, if all else fails, that may well be worth a try. Forgive this, but I am unclear if you have integrated or discrete video.

Can you pls share your system specs? Are you saying the screen is currently connected actually via VGA, or, are you saying it is connected digitally and is just SAYS VGA?

As I wrote above, over the weekend I'll try reinstalling the drivers. I have integrated video. My CPU is an AMD A-6400K.

The MS support engineer's post to which you linked--thanks--talks about drivers for a graphics card. Am I only seeing "Display Adapter" because I have integrated video?

The monitor is connected to the motherboard with a VGA connection into a D-sub port. Both the monitor and the motherboard also have DVI-D ports.

Here are my system basics:

CPU: AMD A-6400K
MB: GIGABYTE GA-F2A88X-D3H FM2+
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 2x4GB DDR3-2133
PSU: Corsair CX500M 80 Plus Bronze

Removal of everything related to that card through programs and features should be your best bet, followed by the latest drivers.

Edit: Looks like the 'AMD Chipset Driver (include chipset \ sata raid \ VGA \ USB driver)' on the Gigabyte site would be the best thing to go for here.

Hi again.

Installing Mfg drivers for a given screen is controversial. Some say never do it, others say, do it. But, just FYI, in your case, there appears to be an update for yours released March of this year, 2013. Compatible with W8 64-bit.

Not sure what you have right now, or if trying these would make a difference or not. If not, you could always roll them back.

But, bet what Ketchup79 suggests, re update chipset drivers, will work.

Yet another example of it's horses....not zebra. Try the most logical things first.

The newer the system, the OS, the bios, esp with integrated video....the less likely it will tolerate analog.
