iMac hard drive testing software? (free)

TridenT

Anyone got some software they can recommend that is free to test the hard drive inside an iMac? It's a relatively new iMac (has thunderbolt). It has a ? over a folder when booting up. Just need to test the hard drive to see if it has any bad sectors and so forth. (Disk utility isn't sufficient from what I can tell) We already got some files off of it.

Is it booting at all?

If it is relatively new, then why not take it to the apple store?

Yeah, that's what we're doing now. I just assume everything isn't under warranty. Its technical service is expired, but replacement is still good to go. Just going to have the user take it to the Apple store.

Apple will diagnose for free and then advise the cost for repair if it isn't in warranty.
