I think I'm going to buy an iMac for my girlfriend for xmas.
I'm thinking of getting the iMac 20-inch/2.0GHz. $1,199.

She will use it for web surfing/email/super simple music editing and some super simple video editing (like clipping out a 30 second piece from a longer video).

Do you all think it is ok to just go with all the lower specs? are there any specs which I should improve? Also, do you know any places on the net where I can get a good deal on this?

She should have problem with the basic spec system, although you might want to pick up some more ram from another retailer as it will be significantly cheaper. Also say you are a student and take advantage of the deal.
