i have noticed theres 3 leds are on on the logic board.

strange as it works if connected to a external monitor.

anyone help.

How old is the iMac? If it is less than a year old and you opened it up, then you may be out of luck unless you are able to put the old one back in.

If it is less than a year old (or less than 3 years old with applecare) then you can just take it to an Apple Store and they will fix it.

hi not sure how old it is i think its a 2009 model. theres no warrenty as i bought it used.

any ideas what the fault might be?

The warranty should be tied to the serial number, with the imac hooked up to an external display, click the Apple in the upper left corner and then click 'About This Mac'.

You should see a popup window, with a big apple on top, and then below that 'Mac OS X' and then below that the version number. Click the version number twice to bring up the serial number.

You can put that in online at this location https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

that will tell you if you are still under warranty or not.

I would have assumed that the fault was with the inverter, but if you replaced that and it still isn't working then the next guess is the backlight, but that is a very involved replacement, and probably not cheap.

If you have an Apple store in your area, then I suggest you take it in to them regardless. At the very least they will tell you exactly what is wrong.
