I'm worried that Sarah Palin's going to be our next President.

Quickest way to lose any independent vote, is to nominate Palin. If anything this latest election showed, its that on the elections that people actually knew the name and views of the person running, simply being an "R" or "Tea-party" didn't get you elected.

I really wish Christie would start gearing up, he's definitely somebody I could vote for, even if he's a bit too right for me. If he chose a more moderate VP, he might garner a lot of independent votes. However, if he picked Palin, or Palin picked him, I'd never vote for him.

I don't there are many other Republicans I could vote for. Pawlenty is too much of a irrational conservative, my family in MN doesn't think he's all that reasoned in his fiscal conservatism.

No way in hell I'd vote for Newt.

Jindal seems to be nothing better than a opportunistic prick.

Who else is there?

Anybody in VA have comments on how Jim Webb has been doing? I voted for him back in 06 and liked him a lot. He seemed like a middle-road guy who had a decent idea of how things should work.

I think she could win because of the Zionist lobby and because too many people don't want an Austrian. They'd rather have someone closer to FDR (Palin) than Robert A Taft (Dr. Paul).

And for people saying Palin's not moderate, give me a fucking break. Neocons are the most moderate people out there. They're not hostile to the welfare state, and they're pro-war.

If Ron Paul doesn't run in the primaries then I probably won't have anyone to vote for. The next two closest people I can think of who might run are Gary Johnson and David Duke and neither one of them is very close to Dr. Paul.

Christie would lose his fat ass because he's fat. That, and the tunnel debacle. He's easily painted as an antithesis to American progress. He IS already.

...A more moderate VP? In case Christie's fatness causes him to pull a Chris Farley on the Oval Office Floor? Oh, Great. Let's count on that for moderate leadership.

All politicians are somewhat friendly and many lie to your face just to turn and lie a different lie to someone else the moment they turn their back to you. I find it refreshing when someone like Palin does not. Many other people also admire this. You may call them dumb for their admiration, after all, that is the most common insult of the liberals and the "progressives" to those who disagree with them. But you are quite wrong to do so.

Palin does not in your eyes because she's not an intellectual individual so she sticks to her "Patriotic" guns to win Americans over. She can be Mother Teresa for all I care, Palin does not understand policy, therefore she is a terrible candidate for the Presidency.

She removed herself from government and started a reality TV show, she has all but become irrelevant in politics. That is not President material.

You think that because you're a norm and you don't have any experience having verifiably better discernment than others.

What's a norm? Is that the name you call people who have an opinion that is is not completely bizzaro?

Oh, your long reply is meant to be personally insulting? Like Dorothy Parker, I love those! Though I would much prefer to go a round with a nice glass of bourbon in my hand, it is too damn early in the morning for that, so let me grab my mug o' joe and I'll be right back! :awe:

Nothing like a brewup on a lazy Saturday morning waiting for the sun to warm up enough to take the bike out for a fast ride!

Tick tock!

I was going for the Yaucono Selecto but at the last moment my hand moved to the Cafe Rico, which I to tend to often prefer for the extra punch. As a self-proclaimed authority figure, which should I choose and why?

Let's get the party started.

I'm 99th percentile.

OMG, you are saying you are a 1%er! That would explain everything!

Norms are idiots compared to me.

Red Dawn agrees with you.

I have a far more robust definition of "norm" than just, "one who disagrees with me." Even idiots can see the obvious or will believe the correct authority figure sometimes.

Yes, I can see where you would believe that. It is so so obvious.
She has no real message.

She has been elected to high office and has been paid millions for her message while you post here for free. I can understand the anguish you must feel.
She, along with conservative talk, simply engage in emotional manipulation.

Can't argue with that, I say the same of my wife almost every day.

The Nascar Nation confuses that for a real message because they cannot discern between emotion for effect and emotion from a cause, and they certainly can't take that down to emotion from a valid cause.

Ooooh. Now those are fighting words. If could only understand what the hell you are trying to say.

I have been to three NASCAR events, twice at Dover's Monster Mile and once at Daytona. It was like I was coming home to grits 'n' gravy.

But your point is that pointless emotion is OK so long as it is in the name of a right proper cause, like state sponsored atheism or the Democrat Party. Like the Days Of Rage in the good ol' days.
Your ignorance blinds you to your gullibility.

o_O
I'm assuming you're not very attractive, because if you were, you'd understand upper-tier hotties a little better.

o_O

I'll have to ask my wife why she gets so jealous if that's the case.

Palin does have some authenticity about her, but that's just because she's too stupid to understand exactly what she's doing.

o_O

I wish I were so stupid as to become a multi-millionaire and a leading contender for the Presidency in a year and a half.

She honestly believes a lot of what she spews because she doesn't understand that she's just going with what's been positively reinforced and avoiding what has been punished, and completely unaware that, in the female way, she does this by manipulating image.

o_O

Must be a female thing. I wouldn't understand.

Because she is sheltered from reality by her looks she's never had to become consciously aware of this.

I don't see where she was elected captain of the cheerleading squad. From Wiki -

Palin played flute in the junior high band, then attended Wasilla High School where she was the head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes,[10] and a member of the girls' basketball and cross country running teams.[26] During her senior year, she was co-captain and point guard of the basketball team that won the Alaska state championship, earning the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" for her competitive streak.[28][29][30]

You, in your naivete, think her output comes from a solid foundation.

Can't say that anyone has ever called me naive before. It is kind of cute.

I looked harder.

Yes, I can believe that you do look hard. Maybe you would be happier if you looked softer.

You can't go by your standard-issue bullshit detector.

You mean there is a special-issue bullshit detector?
That does fine when everything is middle-of-the-road,
Oh, I was worried there for a moment. But as the only crisis stemming from the last election exists in the minds of the libs here, I am glad that I do not have to upgrade right away.

but when you start getting people who have been deluded by circumstance,

Does this mean poor people, or just those in the middle class?

who are socially manipulative

Sociopaths or politicians?
and morally flexible,

Swingers?

or are just insane,
Everyone who posts on ATP&N?

it just can't be trusted.
See, I DO need the special-issue BS detector. I is disappoint.

1picturep.jpg

You need to look closer.
My nose is just twelve inches from this screen.

You need to ask yourself questions that require work to answer.
I am semi-retired. I only do what I feel like doing. :awe:

And not self-serving answers, either.
Yes, unlike your own.

Palin does not pass the grade.
I thought she already graduated?

Her pattern of reaction is one of an image-centric person.
We have a separate discussion on that already. I voted for the naked woman.

Her responses and reactions are more mobile than you'd find in someone with a strong connection to reality.
o_O

Hard-nosed pragmatism is very confining. She does not exhibit anything resembling that confinement.
I don't think she is into bondage. Maybe you know something that I don't? Links, please.

I would rather the world be simple.
I kinda gathered that.

I would rather someone like Palin be believable.
For someone that refers to the fairy characters of manga to make her point I think you do have some room to grow.

But that's just not the case.
It's OK.

Even someone who takes what looks to be the simple and straightforward path is not even close to guaranteed to end with something that isn't twisted all to hell in the meta-analysis.
o_O

Natural human cognition was just never meant to deal with things on this level -- there are a thousand ways in which it can derail and still look good to the untrained eye.
Are we still talking about the naked woman poll?

So, Palin is off on her own little loop and the Nascar Nation keeps smoothing the path to their White Knighting, convincing themselves that everything that comes out of her is gold.
It isn't???? I is disappoint. Again.

boxxysi9.jpg

Two faults that coincide to form a path to nowhere.
Kid, you might have heard this before, but you gotta start layin' off those drugs.
Her Tea Party blitz went on after that book.
This book?

2012_spelled_out_at_Borders.jpg

Whatever she went through didn't cause her to ground in reality and swear off social manipulation techniques.
I get the impression you are talking from experience here.

She's fluff.
red-fluff&

While that fact could change at some future date with some bolt of realization coming upon her out of the blue, that doesn't change that she's fluff now.
Everyone needs to experience this at least once in their lives...

Holy shit, have you never been around anyone even remotely philosophical before?

My hero.

Obama's presence comes from a solid foundation.

Obama did not cause the banking crisis,
Agreed. He was oblivious. I blame Chris Dodd and Barney Frank.

and economic recovery will not be a direct result of any physical response of the government.
Agree again.

You are completely clueless about the economy if you believe otherwise.
o_O

So too with Star Wars. But that does not make you Luke Skywalker.
o_O

Before we go dashing off to blow up the Death Star based on a "visceral response," perhaps we should take a closer look at this dream?
journal__75__monsterdream.jpg

The Nascar Nation does not vet its emotions.
Really?

I kinda get choked up when I see this.

If they feel it, it is "real" -- even if "it" is pro wrestling.
I now whut you mean.

Perhaps you should strive to have a little better discernment than that.

I am pointing out a POV on should, not saying anything about "will."
o_O

Throughout history the peasants have shown a comfort in darkness. Dogmatic religions, totalitarianism...
When did this thread become about Obama?

"Thinking" appears to be more work for them than they are willing to do.
Oh, I don't know about that!

So perhaps there is no such thing as a stable high society.

Will the Nascar Nation soon be living in mud huts trying to eke out a living from the land? Wouldn't surprise me.

Right now she beats Obama in polls. It could very well happen.

Shit like that tells me Americans have absolutely no clue how well a president is working or not. If they arent being handed the world on a silver platter they blame the current president. Regardless of whether its actually his fault or if he's even done good things, they always take it out on him.
Last election people were so mad at Bush they just assumed a Democrat HAD to be better.
Now they dont want him even though he got his health care bill WHICH IS WHAT HE FUCKING PROMISED HE WOULD DO!

Do people have any idea who or what they are voting for? Is it really just a large round of American Idol to them?

Oh don't worry, shit like that might tell you that if it were true, but spidey just made it up out of nowhere. There is no credible poll that says what he claimed.

(spidey is mentally ill, so you probably shouldn't take anything he says seriously)

Sarah is cute and has a reality show. Obama used up his 15 minutes a long time ago. I have no difficulty believing that right this second she is more popular than him.
Of course, when it comes time to vote we will know for sure.

Half-Governor Palin has a relatively small but extremely devoted fan base; enough to ensure great ratings for a TLC show but not enough to win a national election. 5 million viewers make a hit cable TV show, but 5 million voters most assuredly do not make a president.
