I have a gigabyte p67a-ud3-b3 mobo which says it's lga1155

My heat sink is a xigmatek dark knight s1283v
it says on the box that it's compatible with lga 1156
My CPU is i5-2500k lga 1155

Do I need to buy a new fan?

Nah, you're good. Both sockets use the same mounting pattern...and (IIRC) the 1155 processors run a bit cooler than the 1156 processors.

I don't know how good that particular HSF set up is personally, but it gets OK reviews.

I suspect that as long as you don't push an overclock too hard, it'll work just fine.

It will fit like a glove. No issues whatsoever when I tried installing a CM Hyper212+ meant for the LGA1156 on a LGA1155 board.

I just installed a Xigmatek Gaia on a 1155 board last night. I had your same question, googled it, and as it turned out people were correct in that it is the same as the 1156 holes.

punch down screws? Mine had T-screws, but i totally screwed them in the wrong way, but still worked. After I screwed them in, I realized "Hmmm, 'T' screw. Probably should look like a T when screwed in"

ahh, gotcha

Installing those stupid anti-vibration things into the fan was the hardest part. My thumbs were hurting after pulling them through
