I'm wondering about when new notebooks are released

Specifically I like Asus notebooks the best. Do notebook new releases usually happen the same time each year or coincide with a certain trade show?
 

Possibly (esp in the case of apple), but the biggest driver for new models are upgrades in the base chipset/cpu/gpu.

Next big wave of new laptops will probably be sometime next year when dual core yonah become available.

This is correct. You might see some new derivatives of existing designs, particularly systems with dual core A64's & high performance graphics, but I wouldn't expect many new mainstream notebooks.

That said, I've gotten wind of a new Asus P4 notebook using GF 6800 graphics :Q Look for a news article soon 😉
