I just sold my Dell machine for more than a new 2400 would cost and I'm waiting (and waiting...) for my Intel Retail Edge package to arrive!

3GHz baby! 😀

In the meantime, I'm using a Pentium 100. 4x8MB 72-pin FP RAM (no EDO for me!)
No cache RAM. 256-colour onboard video. (I'm lucky it'll do 800x600x256c!)
Managed to get Win98SE running decently - better than Win95 OSR 2.5 did!

It's still hideous...... It's making waiting for the new machine even harder!

But at least I have my Anandtech back so I can vent. 😛
Oh well... at least my collection of ISA sound cards and NICs aren't going to waste. 😀

Technically speaking, the Trident 9680 chip is *capable* of 1024x768 at 256 or 800x600 at 16-bit... (Only 1MB of VRAM) but there's some driver issues that cannot be resolved (and I've tried.) So it's working in "Trident SVGA" mode..... enough to get by anyways.

A PCI video card would save the day. 😛 Radeon 9100 in a P100 anyone? 😀

Fine for DOS apps, but even opening and closing IE windows is a chore... cache would help a bit. But alas, no cache on this mobo. 😱

Time to dig out my old DOS games to try and tide me over. 🙂
Maybe I should pop my Roland LAPC-1 in here......

If that's a free download, I might consider it - especially if it'll run smoother on this P100 machine.

Really, all I need is email and web browsing.
