Why would someone pay the higher price?
That someone is an Apple user. Apple users have for decades paid much more for basically the same product. This is nothing new to them. In fact, it is desireable (I can't understand why though).

They think it means they're "better".

Like paying more for a Lexus which is just a chromed-out Toyota.

Perhaps the higher price offers internet functionality of some sort outside of the web browser. Like maybe the internet album art retrieval and similar stuff doesn't work on the cheaper service. Actually I have no idea and don't really care. A decent netbook sounds so much better than an ipad IMO.

The theory is that the iPad version will be much better than the online version. They'll be able to offer a better more skimmable format with the iPad, thus making it worth more than the web version.
