I'm helping a volunteer organization setup a computer/tech class to allow underprivledged youth (jr. high) an opportunity to learn about computers and how to use certain programs. The class is scheduled to meet 2 times a week for 2 hours with a 10 minute break inbetween. My hope was to give a brief introduction about the program/lesson for the day then allow them to work on whatever I assign them for the remaining time. I was just hoping to receive some input into some programs/skills that might be useful to teach these kids.

Here's what I was planning so far:
Goal: have them design a presentation about their family history
- powerpoint presentation
- excel spreadsheet to make graphs (ethnic population levels - that they might find online/magazines most are asian immigrant children)
- type-up a proposal concerning their project (word)
- scan and edit photos (photoshop)
- have them interview some people and show them how to edit (premier)
- give them an introduction to the features of windows (how to navigate the os) as well as a brief overview of how computers work.

Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
