I'm trying to get RPC configured properly...

are there any good links which explains this? I have yet to find any.

I can't seem to login with a 2000 adv server machine part of a domain with active directory.

Keeps telling me:

Attempt to update DNS Host Name of the computer object in active directory failed. the updated value was "xxx.xxx.xxx". The following error occurred.

The RPC server is unavailable.

RPC is running on server. as to whether or not it is running correctly, right now I would assume not.

From the information your giving us this isn't an RPC problem. It's a DNS problem. The error is telling you that the machine can't update it's DNS records. The "RPC Server Unavailable" error is because it can't resolve a domain controller.

Check all your DNS settings.
