Hey everyone! I've been toying with the idea for sometime. Basically i have a ton of 'puter parts that are just lying around(Durons, AXP's, Gigs of DDR, some motherboards) and with a little bit of money i can have a cruncher farm to contribute to either F@H or S@H. (needs to me a nix client)
I'm having a hard time figuring out how i can get all of this setup. What i want is: A server with a HD to boot up the other computers over the network. Basically, this is the cheapest way since i already have an old 450Mhz PII machine with a harddrive and two nics. Now, im a network noob, but i assume i can plug my Router into one NIC on the PII server, and attach the other NIC to a switch and use either Cluster Knoppix, or Red Hat and LTSP to boot these machines with PXE (the mobos have intergrated LAN cards).
Basically, does anyone have cruncher farm, and can offer some wise words of advice to me. I'm a total nix noob and it's a pretty daunting task to get everything configured up, and networked properly. Even if you use something different like overfoldnix- whatever, tell me how you setup your cruncher farm so i can get idea of my own planned out. I would prefer network boot (cheaper, won't have to buy HD's or Floppy's or CD-ROMs for each machine) but if that way is easier it may be worth the money.
Thanks!
