I'm trying to find salary info for my field.....

I know Salary.com is on the high-side. I'll be a college-grad w/ a business management degree w/ a minor in Economics. However, my interest is in Human Resource Management.

Now, I honestly have no clue what an entry-level Human Resource Generalist 1 SHOULD make. I know it varies greatly on location and organization but I'm not sure what to expect....I guess I'll know more once I do an internship this summer but I would really like to get a better understanding on the potential salary.

Anyone have any suggestions of where to look or who to ask?

Heh, I've thought about getting into HR as well, seeing as how most of my jobs have dealt with people skills, conflict management, advising, and not with finance, law or accounting (my future fields).

That being said, I can't help you. Sorry. 😛

Ha...same here, I've been in Toursim Customer Service (either deckhand on tour boats or a reservation agent) since I was 17 (23 now) so I think I am good with handling people's questions. However, just the way my education turned out I am a bit more educated in Finance and CIS.

I've worked as an RA and as a CA in college, was a Natural Helper, Peer Mediator in high school, all those typical namby pamby people skills activities, it's just worked out that I'm a very good mediator and I tend to be a good listener as well. I've been involved in numerous interview committees as well, since my jr. year of high school. Something tells me I really should look at what I do naturally as a career to pursue, lol, but I still find those other fields interesting and so I figure I'll study them.

Or maybe I'll get bored in a year and want a job. The hard part is just getting started I guess.

You're almost a college grad and haven't figured out yet what to expect for pay in your field?!

Well......I'm a BUSINESS MANAGEMENT MAJOR...there are a TON of possibilities with this degree, so...no I have no idea, yet..but I am a junior, getting a jump on things.

Thanks for being so helpful.

from what I have heard... a starting HR person at a large firm in NY can excepct 55-60k a year tops. The bigger problem, I would think, is that I don't think that figure goes up very much (or very fast) in subsequent years.

I think that is high for a base level HR Generalist, even in NY.

you are probably right... my experience is with people working in finance only, though.

Well, personally I have no clue what exact field I am going to get into...I just know that it will probably be somewhere in Human Resource Management.

That being said, Salary.com gives a range of $42,000-$52,000 for an HR Generalist 1 in Alaska. Which seems rather high. I'd like to get 40k, but I don't know if that's too much to ask.
