I'm torn between these 2 laptops, what would you get? POLL

X60s (wait for Vista)
Pros: super light, excellent battery life, very durable

Macbook
Pros: OSX > Windows (imo), dual OS, stylish, widescreen.

Overall, I prefer the Thinkpad because of it's weight. The only reason I'd buy a Macbook is becaues it's much cheaper. It would be more of a temporary fix until Vista has proven itself. Would it be a smart idea to buy a Macbook now and sell it when Vista has finally proven itself? How do Macbooks hold their resale value? I'm tired of waiting for new technology.

This laptop will primarily be used for web surfing and typing papers. There will be no games.

sorry but i'm a really big ibm thinkpad fan. I do admit though macbooks are really nice, but you just had to put it up against a thinkpad.
 
widescreen isn't all that great if you're losing desktop area (which you typically are) unless you're in coach a lot (easier to open). if you're trying to get work done having to scroll up and down the document all the time blows. and the macbooks aren't a very high resolution.
 
I've got a Thinkpad, and it looks and performs just like the day I bought it. T40 with first gen. 1.5ghz Centrino platform. IBM's warranty service was top notch. Next day aired me parts at no cost with no questions asked(a broken key on a keyboard, a new battery while still under warranty, and a flaky dvd drive). None were major problems, but I paid for great service and they responded immediately.

You won't go wrong with either, but if you want a real long term investment, the Thinkpad is a great one.
 
i can speak to the durrable on the thinkpad. Dropped a shelf on one and took a big chunk ouit of the top of it. Still runs like a champ.
 
I have the X60s. Very good design. The keyboard is very very comfy to use.

edit: Old thinkpad x31 are still selling for over $500 on ebay. 😛

I'm on a X30 right now. Although it doesn't have a resale value as high as a Pentium M chip, it still runs pretty well. The crappy part is that whenever there's a website that's a little graphic intensive, the page scrolling tends to lag.
 
are you going to multitask much? Bc if you do I would recommend a MAC over a winbox even with vista(i have played around with vista). If it is just going to be solely paper writing, websurfing, and indestructibility get the lenovo. I can't stand not having a lot of screen to play with on anything I use.
 
Thinkpad... the warranty alone is godlike. AC fried on Monday, I called at noon, I got my replacement at 4pm at my house, private courier.

T42. I will buy nothing but TP solely b/c of warranty service and build quality.

Actually one disadvantage to IBM is that they're late to pick up on Core 2 Duos (at least here in Canada).

MB's aren't bad, just that TP's are better 😉
 
Macbook. Macs hold their resale better than any other manufacturer & Parallels runs windows xp better than most windows machines.
 
Just to sound a lone dissenting voice, my experience with Lenovo service was so bad that I returned my T60 widescreen (the computer was defective, and the service was just horrific). I have had MUCH better experience with Dell's Indian call centers than Lenovo's Atlanta one. As luck would have it I bought a MacBook after I sent back my POS T60, and I really really like it.

Yeah, our it office has given up on lenovo. We're almost totally dell and mac only, now. Lenovo's quality has slipped.
