My car is 5 yrs. old, I usually get a new one every 4 yrs., so I'm long overdue. I've narrowed my choices to a VW GTI VR6, an Acura RSX Type S or maybe a Nissan King Cab SVE S/C truck (I'm not sure the truck is practical, I commute 110 mi. roundtrip). I've heard and read about VW's quality issues, so I leaning towards the Acura. But, I can get a great on either the VW or the Nissan. I like to hear real life experiences from owners of these cars to help me decide. Thanks, in advance for any input.

Is cost no issue? or are these vehicles similary priced? I'd get the pickup myself, I love trucks, and I really like that one. but, they are bad on gas.
the GTI will likely be the fastest... the RSX is not a fast car... depends on what you want.. :)

What kind of car do you have now? Are you gonna trade it in? What's you're budget?

YOU are the only one who can decide this. Want something big? Get the truck. Want something more efficient on gas that is faster and more fun to drive? Get a car.

Personally I'd never pick a GTi VR6. Grossly overpriced. You could get an Altima 3.5 or a WRX instead of either of the two cars you mentioned in fact, and those two would slay both the vr6 and rsx in power, if power is your main thing - and it seems to be since you picked the vw and acura. Course they are a tad more pricey, but I'd really steer clear of an RSX Type-S, but that's just me ;D

EDIT: actually the gti vr6 isn't grossly overpriced; the rsx is :)

probably most reliable from what you chose..

I drive a 200SX-SER, I only want a 2-door vehicle. My budget is up in the air, work pays for my ride(I own the car, if I leave it's my cash that pays 4 it). I'll keep my car to beat around NYC and so on. I don't want RWD cuz of the weather conditions in upstate NY(I live there).

I'd consider it, but it's got high miles. It's mechanically perfect, but the paint is not great. I'm prolly jinxing myself by saying it's never been in an accident, :).

How about an 03 Accord Coupe V6? The 6 speed should be coming out soon, should be in the same price range as these other cars you're looking at.

Whatever, if the man can afford it then why not? Gotta keep pumping money into the economy!

It isn't your money, how do you care what his reasons are for buying a car?? I think those reasons are fine for buying a car... if anything it helps the economy:)

I have an RSX right now. It is great, highly reccommended. Once you take a test drive, you will love it too. You can gind out general information about each of those cars at car forums. Club RSX is a good place to start. I couldn't help you with finding the locations of forums for the GTI.

VW's quality issues are mainly with the Jetta since they shifted production to Mexico.... There are so many great cars out now, its hard to chose, but I would go for one of these:

Nissan Murano (I love the looks, some people hate it)
Honda Accord V6 Coupe (Motor Trend compares this favorably to the Mercedes CLK)
Infinit I35 (Never driven it, but my car nut friend highly recommends it)
Honda S2000 (True sports car)
Subaru Impreza WRX (Wait for the STI, its got 260hp)

For under $20K, get a Mazda Protege5 (zoom zoom)

The I35 is a tarted up Maxima. One word for it. CRAPPY! If you really like it so much, better go for the Maxima. However if you mentioned the G35, then that's a much better car. Almost close to Audi, BMW in performance, but kinda cheap inside.

If you can wait for a few months (like early next year), you can get the 240hp VW GTI. That will be a blast...(and luxurious too, unlike the econo Subaru WRX) The RSX while being a Honda and so more reliable, IMO is not worth it. And I think it is a sales flop too compared to the older version.

If you prefer a 4 door, you can also check out the upcoming Mazda 6. Decent handling and better than el-cheap Altima in interior.
