I'm thinking of replacing Rice in my diet with String beans.

what do you Atkins guys think??

i've given up on trying the induction phase. i've done it several times and always relapsed. i've decided just to lower my total carb's content. as an Asian i eat lots and lots of white rice, thinking of replacing white rice in my meals with string beans (canned variety).

what do you think, that should lower my carbs count be a bit right?

any thoughts?

not on atkin's diet, but...billions of skinny asians can't be wrong. stick with rice. at least go with fresh string beans. just avoid snacking and exercise every other day.

i don't snack.

i'm asian and i'm not skinny, what other asians look like really isn't relevant here.

That's sort of an odd choice to replace rice with. What about something like barley or kasha instead? Are those high in "bad" carbs? I don't know too much about carbs, I just thought string beans were a strange replacement for rice...

it's cause i like string beans. 🙂 and they can be filling.

ya, most whole grains, including whole grain rice, wouldn't be bad. string beans have a higher fiber to carb ratio than any whole grain tho.

barley is a grain also. very similar to rice. i dont' know what kasha is but i'm going to assume that it too is a grain.

you have to realize that some foods that are high in carbs are also high in fiber. we all know that fiber is good for ya, whether nutritionally or in terms of networks 😀

If you like string beans, eat more string beans. It's a no brainer.

You could try eating brown rice instead of white rice (while still the same amount of carbs, brown rice has more nutrients than white rice) and eating less than you did before. Check out this nutritional comparison between white and brown rice.

Rice is a hi GI food - if you're really that worried about it, don't eat rice with your dinner as your last meal. Eat it with lunch or somewhere in the day where you can use the carbs

not true, if i excercise moderately and increase my caloric intake, i will GAIN weight, fat and muscle.

i excersize moderately now, it is better to decrease my caloric intake than it is to increase excercise at this point.

GI is the "Glycemic Index".

High GI/ GL is not good right? unless you are diabetic and need the sugar rush.

High GI foods cause a tremendous spike in Insulin, "the fat-storing hormone" (TM).

Ironically, the best way to eat carbs so as not to spike the insulin is to eat it with fat. But this is the key to weight gain.

See, High carb, low fat equals weight loss. High fat, low carb equals weight loss. High fat, high carb equals weight gain. BUT, high carb, law fat also eventually results in diabetes and creates a cycle of food craving since blood sugar levels fluctuate heavily during the day. That's why Atkin's is so effective. It stops fat storage, but without the sugar fluctuations which make it so hard to stay on High Carb.
