I'm about to start a new job and I'm thinking about splurging a little on a graduation present for myself.

I dont know much about plasmas but this one seems to have good reviews and its not priced too bad.

I just want one.

I would look into a large RPTV, either DLP or LCOS.

The higher resolution the better, TI has just released their 1080P DLP chip so their should be sets available shortly with it.

If you're willing to drop that kind of cash you can do better.

Viper GTS

Samsung will be releasing 1080p RPTVs soon, probably in June. I'd wait till then to purchase because 1080p is a big step above 1080i.

and remember, Plasma (or any big-screen for that matter) has a very high mark up when it comes MSRP, so try and get it on sale...

I was in ircuit City today picking up something for the wife. I sat there watching this LCD TV. I was blown away. Very good, sharp picture with vibrant color.

Higher resolution alone is not better. You may not ever notice the scaling artifacts on that plasma but I guarantee you will see the differences in color gamut and viewing angle on a DLP vs. that Panasonic. And don't forget to factor in total cost of ownership including lamp costs when comparing projection systems to Plasma.
