I've played Paint ball before, it's a fun game, but I want to start playing Airsoft. I have around $300-$350 to spend on all the equipment I need to start playing. I don't know where I can buy this stuff, so I need some assistance from anybody who knows something about it. Any advice is nice too, thanks.

I read that Tokyo Marui is the best brand to buy. Do the other brands even compare?

The thing about TM's is that it's pretty realistic. It also doesn't have that whack orange tip.

The pellets fly pretty straight with them?

My friend got a TM MP5. Amazing gun, super realistic and quality stuff. But yeah I wiuld go for a clear one or atleast paint a BRIGHT orange tip if you do get a black gun. We got the cops called on us last time because people are too stupid to see the orange tip.

Yeah, thanks for the info. I was talking to a friend about that concern last night and we we're trying to figure out a way we could play in his backyard(he has forts and tons of cover in his backyard). It is legal to play in your yard though isn't it? btw, what was the outcome of having the cops called on you?

Its totally legal. In the backyard is even better. And nothing happened with the cops, they just came and told us there were some calls, and that they were just checking up on us. The cops were totally cool with us airsofting. The problm is when you get that stupid person who is like OMGOMOGMGOMG THAT 16 YEAR OLD HAS A GUN!!!!

Okay, I'm going to order an Echo M4 AEG, 8000 .2 gram rounds of KSC biodegradable bbs and a YT-38 full metal pistol(as a side arm weapon). How long would 8,000 rounds usually last?
edit: Where could I find which scopes and accessories are compatible with that rifle?

Just watch out for square rounds.

Seriously. My friend had to tear apart his mp5 when one jammed inside it.

Other than a gun and a few thousand rounds, get GOOD eye protection, since the rounds can break skin easily. And stay away from the green gas guns.

I guess I should get a full mask just to be safe?

Wait, please do not order anything but Tokyo Marui... I like to think I'm the local airsoft expert on the boards, been into it for over ten years. I'll expound a bit once I post this, but throw me all your questions and I think I can take care of you. :)

Yeah a lot of the people I play with have paintball gear, and use that. I've always just worn shooters glasses and maybe a balaclava. BDU's are good too, as they are decently think and protect you from getting hit on exposed skin. Also invest is some good outdoor clothing, as several day-long scenario games I've played have seen hours of rain while I'm in the woods stalking someone :D

First off, do some searches in OT, I've posted a bit in similar threads and there's been a good amount of info lately on this topic.

Second, if you live in the U.S., AirsoftExtreme.com has some of the best deals for you. ShortyUSA is OK, but I'd only go to them maybe for accessories (BBs, Gas, batteries, holsters, etc.) and MAYBE a well-researched pistol (like maybe the M11A1 they have on there, I own that gun and it's fine). If you're looking for something less common and maybe want a bigger selection, don't hesitate to go to RedWolfAirsoft.com. They're in Asia, and the shipping is going to cost you, but oftentimes their *cheap* prices + expensive shipping end up being pretty close to the more expensive US prices + cheaper shipping.

Tokyo Marui is the best brand to start out with, hands down. There's some other guns out there that may be acceptable (though I'd never personally chance a Classic Army...I bought a $400 M4A1 and it broke immediately, then my friend bought a MP5A4 and it ALSO broke immediately, so I'm permanently turned off that brand) but you will NEVER go wrong with a Marui. The quality, reliability and cost beats out any other manufacturer I've ever seen (except Systema, but they run usually over $1000). There's more plastic on them than some (Classic Army, ICS, etc.) but the plastic is very high quality and compared to the crap metal the other guns have, it's usually sturdier anyway. I bought an M4A1 from Marui, and it actually weighed more than my Classic Army model. :Q

When getting a pistol, you can chose from Marui, KSC, Western Arms, and a few others and have great results. Marui owns the AEG market, not the pistol market. Western Arms is probably the best you can get...never buy a UHC, stay away from most KWC (except the Desert Eagle, if you like that) and any obscure Taiwanese brands. Non-blowback is probably going to be pretty disappointing for you, too, so try to splurge and get a nice Western Arms or be economic and get a sturdy Marui M9 or maybe a KSC .45.

I'll post some links for you from my bookmarks to check out in a second from places you can trust...

edit for links:

RedWolf - Best asian airsoft shop
Airsoft Extreme - Best US airsoft shop
Arnies Airsoft - British news/reviews/articles... lots of great info
Airsoft Forum - Go here. Great place.
Airsoft players database + info

747 Imports - US shop, a bit more expensive but very trustworthy and has some good deals from time to time
Airsoft Atlanta - I buy almost all of my accessories here, and the occasional pistol. They have a decent selection and great prices on accessories, so always check them out, but be wary of their largely crappy pistol selection and expensive AEGs.
WGC - Another popular asian shop
Airsoft Shop - asian shop good for some obscure stuff, if they have it in stock...

Lord Maul beat me to the punch but I got my gun from Redwolfairsoft.com.

Tokyo Marui G3 SAS with a level 4 upgrade.

I can destroy watermelons with that puppy.

Also, like others have said, a high-power gun can hurt at close range.
At bare minimum you need safety goggles. A mask is better.
Some padded clothes are smart too.

Now go out there and KILL!

I still have scars from an asshole friend of mine emptying the full mag of my M11 up my arm and across my chest from about 5 inches away. :Q :(

TM is ok.. Classic Army is way way better though.. metal parts VS plastic and higher out of the box FPS.

Arnies Airsoft is a good site
houstonairsoft.com is also good for info.

BTW maul.. blame whomever you bought your CAs from on their defects..
Ive had way way more luck with my CAs and mine have been through Irene and many other statewide ops.

as for TMs being sturdy.. lol... give me a full metal CA any day of the week including metal gears.
