I'm thinking about getting into a MMORPG for the summer

I'm sure that I'll have several hours to kill this summer, as it's between senior year and college. No obligations, really. So, I've decided to pick up an MMORPG.

Which one should I go with? Any pros/cons?

A side note, I'll be making about $400 a month, after my insurance and gas cache are paid for. I'm still living with the parents, so room and board are pretty well covered.

I think the ones that get the most votes will be:

1. WoW
2. Guild Wars
3. City of Heros
4. Everquest II

The rest will be negligable

EverQuest does no doubt about it. EQ has had so many expansions it is just simply massive now. Getting around, though, has been made exceedingly easier (too easy in my opinion) so some gamers may think it "feels" smaller. For comparison WoW has two main continents and the original EQ release had 2.5 (3 but one was pretty small). Now EQ has tons and oodles of places to visit.

I think that EQ has a much better storyline and developed history than even WoW but some may argue otherwise.

I have played EQ since 1999 until this past May when my account expired. I was in an end-game guild and have seen everything that EQ had to offer (except for the last expansion) and EQ definitely had much more "wow factor" than WoW. However me and my guild has ditched EQ for WoW because it is a bit more polished in many aspects, of course being brand new helps a great deal.

For casual play WoW is the best. It is easy to log in for an hour or so and feel that you actually accomplished something. In EQ you could log in for an hour and do just about nothing which fueled a lot of aggravation. Additionally I would recommend WoW because it is a very easy game to play. EQ was much more difficult but also was much more frustrating and that is no fun.

There is a good reason why many people play WoW; it's a good game. Conversely there is a good reason why people still play EQ (a six year old game); it too is a good game.

I can't believe no one has suggested perhaps not getting into such addictive gaming...it's your last summer before college, you're oldest/coolest kid at your HS go live it up :

Well of course I'm not going to be spending all of my time doing this, I'd assumed that it was implied that anyone who "picks up a hobby" for the summer doesn't do it for every last second of their free time.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm sorry that I don't live in your magical world of 18/7 pool parties and picking up "totally awesome" chicks.

Ok one problem here GuildWars==great game but GuildWars|=MMORPG. There is an online graphical chatroom where you can talk with everybody but you are not going through the world with all of the other players in the game at once.

Seriously, this is the last time youll be completely free without responsibilities. Go outside and enjoy the world, and dont get sucked into your computer.

eve-online!! w00t! ive been in eve since may '03. its great because even if you need to take a break from the game, your character can still advance because you can train skills while offline.

ive spent a lot of time in ffxi, but got fed up with the way some people play the game, and other crap thats going on there.
