All I want is the ability to play Doom3 well. That'd be the only criteria by which this PC was measured.

However, I haven't kept up with PC hardware lately. Honestly, I don't really give a crap what thew newest chipset or vieo card is lately. However, I'm interested in putting together a Doom3 machine, so I guess I'll have to look into what's current....

Any suggestions? Approximate prices?

AMD Athlon 64 series cpu
At least a full GB of DDR memory
Either an Nvidia 6800 series or an ATI x800 series gpu
I also recommend getting a 400w+ quality psu.

Depending on whether or not you need a monitor too, expect to spend $1300+. Of course, this is if you want to play the game under high image quality.

There isnt a computer out there that can play D3 at highest details. Atleast, according to the new PC Gamer review. Listen, It really depends on your budget, but you can get away with running it on a 9700/9800 PRO with 1GB RAM, and a 2800XP. You dont need to get an Athlon 64 and 2GB of RAM. Seriously.

I need to upgrade for D3 and HL2 myself. I love it how you have to spend $1500 to play 1 freakin game.
