I found a good job opportunity in San Jose California and I live near Concord CA that should have good pay. The problem is I don't want to put 100 miles each day on on my Honda Civic, so I was looking for some ideas on how to acquire a good beater for this seemingly long commute. What would make a good beater for this commute and at the same time be easy on my wallet for gas?

It was a legit question. How about answering it. If he goes out of his way to put something that doesn't sound right, then pounce. At least try to help if he is asking a legit question.

You don't want to put 100 miles a day on your 12 year old civic beater, so you want to get another beater to put miles on? am I getting this right?

Hey! I have a 13 year old Civic, runs like a champ and only have had to do routine maintainence on it. Okay it's a beater but it's a dependable beater. OP just make sure your car is sound and drive it till the wheels fall off. No point in buying something else to drive back and forth given the age of your car.

Yes but no... My civic is not a beater... a beater is an old crappy car that may or may not be dependable.. My Civic isn't crappy so therefore it isn't a beater.. I originally bought my Civic as a beater to my '00 Lexus LS400 but after driving my Civic, I like it too much to consider it a beater.

Yeah I'm not sure I get the point either. Cars like your Civic are exactly for what you are talking about buying your "beater" for. I could see if you wanted to buy a beater for this because your other vehicle was a Dodge Ram or something. With a main vehicle like a 12 year old Civic you should be in the market for a fun car not another commuter car.

He can't. He was kicked from the garage for spitting on the floor. That's why he's asking here.

OP, So your precious 12 yr old civic is too nice to be used for a commute. 🙄 ok... lol

Too nice to use for a 100 mile commute.. Also I don't like that people don't think of the Civic as a fun car.. It is a fun car, a nice fun car that I feel is too nice and fun for a commute. People who rail against the Civic are those who don't even own one..

The fact that you use that as a defense.... HAHAHAHAHA

Go find out how much your 14K car is actually worth after 12 years. Then you will realize that for intents and purposes, it's a beater worth no more than to shuffle your ass to work. It's nice... ok, that means it shouldn't have a problem with a long commute. Plus you like driving it.

You already own that which you seek.

I own a Civic and it's exactly the car for a commute but since a 12 year old Civic is too nice maybe if you look around you might be able to find a Yugo that would fit your criteria.

If your job will really pay that well...
Just use your civic. When you decide it has too many miles sell it and use your awesome pay to buy a newer civic. Or any other car, y'know, but apparently only a civic will do.

And his dad saved up so much money to buy that Civic too.

If only he inflated the tires to sidewall, he could have a high enough gas mileage to avoid being banned from posting this in the proper forum.
