The gf and I are flirting about ideas regarding a future. Her parents and I get along fine. They invite me to family functions, and they're very nice to me. But there is a huge communication barrier. Their English is very bad, but they're fluent in Korean. The only Korean I know how to say is "take off your pants crazy woman!"

So, I've decided to be proactive about the whole thing and I enrolled in a spring non-credit course, 'Beginer's Korean'.

This will either work just as planned or it will be a disaster. Only time will tell...

Yeah. People always respect when you try with their language.

Except the French :|

Best of luck, Korean is one of the hardest languages to learn. At least reading and writing is easy.

sounds great...it shows you respect and value their culture. I will also come in handy if you visit Korea or go to your town's Koreatown.

What else could you possibly need?

I would like some basic conversational skills to use with her parents. :)

You really just need the mom.

use this line I picked up on the internut: ?? ?? ?? ??? ?????

"your pants crazy girl i want to undress" great korean there......

best way to learn is get a conversation partner. ask your gf if she knows any fob koreans that want to do a language exchange. language exchange helped me a lot with my japanese and it was freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

edit
alkemyst - that sentance makes no sense because its grammar is fubared worse than the direct translation into english.

Take it easy, it's a direct babelfish translation.

I somehow think a chick would think it's funny though.

I am not sure if Korean is SVO or SOV (subject-object-verb), but I have had japanese literal english translations criticized because the words are in the 'wrong order' by americans and even american-japanese people.

I don't know much on the language though, but I have some books I need to read eventually.
