*8* papers. Half a semester. 1 credit. What in the name of satan?

This, plus a presentation. Granted, the papers are SHORT (2-3 pages each). But they're such a fvcking pain in the ass. Gotta submit another paper by midnight tonight... I'm growing TIRED of this.

Stupid sh!t that makes my head hurt. You see, this is one of those stupid, required, "Welcome to higher education, here's how things work" courses. No content. It's just a bunch of annoying self-analysis and "learning how to do research" bullsh!t. It's not hard - it's TEDIOUS and totally NOT WORTH THE FVCKING EFFORT.

I'm taking a 1 credit course in UNIX. I've only attended once and that was an exam.

I think it's pretty safe to assume your 1cr courses mean something significantly different from the normal meaning of 1cr, because at most places, 1 credit means 1hr/wk for a full semester or 2hrs/wk for a half semester. Most courses couldn't POSSIBLY be structured like that and work.

Yes - it's required. All first-year students must take one of these courses, and this particular one is required of all IST majors. What's it called? IST111S is the only damn thing I know it by. Probably some bullsh!t like "Introduction to the School of Information Sciences and Technology"

at my school it didnt matter how many hours a week you met, they were all 1 credit

i had classes that met for 1 hour 2x a week and classes that met for 3 hours 3 x a week all 1 credit

4 classes a semester = 4 credits = 8 credits a year = 32 credits needed to graduate

classes that met for 1/2 a semester were obviously 1/2 credit,

example?

IST 111 ? Fall 2005
Assignment: Tentative IST Plan

Points: 25

At this point, you?ve gotten to hear information regarding IST options, as well as information regarding the IST internship requirement. Please complete a short paper (approximately 2 pages). Your paper should address the following issues relating to IST and IST internships:

? Your knowledge/impression of IST prior to the presentation
o Indicate what research/fact finding you completed prior to choosing IST

? How your impression and knowledge of IST has changed based on this presentation (or not)

? What option or options most appeal to you at this time ? and why?

Having heard today?s internship presentation, take a few minutes to brainstorm some possible internship opportunities:

? What personal contacts do you have that might be useful when looking for an internship?

? What local businesses might be possible sources of internships?

? Are you interested in an out-of-state or international internship?

Not hard. But OH DEAR GOD WHY THE FVCK DO I HAVE TO DO IT?

You're a dumbass. 1cr course means that you attend class for 1hr total every week.

Just like a 3cr hour course would mean that you would attend class for 3hours total every week.

My HS used that system - and Penn State uses the credit hours system. I find the hours to be much more intuitive because some classes SHOULD be worth more because they require more time and more work.

quit your whining.

i had to take a survey course too, write papers and go to first year lectures on alcohol safety/diversity yada yada.

just do your work on time and you'll be fine. It's not like your other classes are difficult : ).

You'll learn fairly quickly that college has very little to do with how smart you are

for the most part it's how much effort/work you put into the class that'll determine your grade.

MIS + CS + Business + CIS + Engineering + Amusing emphasis on interpersonal skills because they know they're catering to nerdly recluses = IST.

Essentially, a breeding program for consultants and IT management.
