I'm switching to Sprint

I'd go with the Evo if you are willing to give up a physical keyboard. But to be honest, the larger keyboard on the Evo easily makes up for the physical feedback. The one downside to the Evo is you'll never be able to use a smaller phone. Holding an iPhone makes you feel like you have to squint in order to see anything.

Posted from an Evo...

Epic is an awesome phone but you will get Samsung s shitty updates which means none.

I don't like the evo cause after you use a s amoled everything else looks like shit. I'd go T-Mobile and get a nexus s.

the epic has its own forum on xda-developers.

seems like there's a bunch of solid roms available, and even a stock froyo rom is in the works. i'd likely install a custom rom over waiting for samsung updates anyway.

I love my Evo, get an otterbox case for it if you go that route.

Why? I have nothing but a screen protector on mine and it's in perfect condition. If you are prone to dropping your phone often, then sure go ahead. I keep mine in a shirt pocket at work and pants pocket on my off days. Adding an otterbox to an EVO makes it a unpocketable phone and takes away all sexiness it ever had.

OP: Go with the EVO unless you absolutely have to have a keyboard. The Epic is a brick with piss poor support. The EVO has decent OEM support and a massive ROM community. The Epic still doesn't have Froyo available. I will not be surprised if the EVO has gingerbread available before the Epic has Froyo. ROM chiefs are hard at work and close to having stable gingerbread roms available.

I know, Ive had their leaked froyos for a while now but none of them are as stable as I would like them to be.

I'd go for the Evo myself, given Samsung's track record. Yes, you can easily install a custom ROM, but I'd rather not give Samsung money and support their crap. You support their crummy tactics of no updates, broken hardware, and non-existent support, you'll only encourage other companies to do the same thing because they'll see that consumers don't care about things like support.

I got an epic and I am running a froyo rom. Thing is sick. Can't look at regular screens after having samoled.

If you are not going to run a ROM, than you should go with Evo. The GPS on stock is buggy, but seems to work for people with roms.

you referring to the GPS on the stock Epic?

Mine doesn't seem to work that well. I installed a 2.1-based ROM sometime in December and haven't gone to one of the Froyo ROMs yet.

What I've noticed is it works for navigation, but it has trouble locating me for things like Latitude.

I would go for the EVO. Samsung sucks at supporting their phones, while HTC is probably the best out of all the Android phone vendors.

Anyone in here that has recommended the Shift actually play with one? I did at the Sprint store last week, and was not really impressed with the display. It seemed pixelated when compared to the original EVO or Epic.

not to mention the shift is just less powerful than both phones mentioned here, and lacks a FF camera. not an option for me..

EVO feels more sluggish than Samsung (This is IF you don't plan on Rooting). Feels like my touch sensitivity has gone WAY down as well too... I'm on my Second EVO, and I can't wait for after February... WP7 here i come!
