I'm Switching Over To OGR!

Well...sort of.

I've become part of the TA Round Robin Proxy and in doing so "had" to start caching OGR blocks. As a result, many of my machines have started doing OGR! This had never been a problem before because since their pproxy didn't cache OGR blocks they had never been able to switch. But now they have! Unfortunatly, some of my machines I only get access to once every year or so... so some are going to be on OGR for.... well, maybe forever! I had to chew on that one for a while before I came to grips with it, and I seriously considered removing myself from the Round Robin in order to regain control over my herd. For the sake of Team AnandTech, I decided that I would be willing to loose RC5 keyrate on some machines and be forced to do a LOT more work getting my other machines to stay on RC5.

After looking at the Distribute Computing Speed Chart, I realized that the few K6x's that I've got should also probably go to OGR since they are pitiful at RC5 but perform close to Pentiums (MMX, P2's and P3's) at OGR. So... I'm switching them over too... it's only about 3 or 4 machines plus the loose canons out there.

Now I need some advice. The ones I want to keep on RC5 I want to KEEP on RC5.... but they keep switching over! I've been doing DNet for 2 1/2 years, so I'm not a neophyte, but I can't seem to make them stop switching over! Suggestions please? I will carefully look at everything that is posted and want to thank in advance any/everyone who posts their ideas.

Once I get that settled down, I think I'll resurrect a couple of machines that I've got... a couple K6/2 350's and a K6/2-233 and begin an OGR crack rack.

Take Care!,

Like Osmo said, if you change the priority settings, it should only fall back to OGR if the RC5 proxy dries up...

I wouldn't put OGR=0 in there, though. If you set that, the client will just stop working if RC5 ends. If you leave it RC5,OGR,DES,CSC, then the client will work on RC5 as long as it has work available, and switch to OGR if RC5 work runs dry.

AH! I've got the priority setting set to:

RC5

That's it! I guess unless you put something else in, it automatically defaults to OGR. I believe that I will put in the "=0" though... When RC5 ends I'll want to look around and decide what I want to do but until then I want to be able to "set and forget" my machines for the most part.

Thanks again,

Joe

Ah, what is that old saying?

Once you go _____ you won't go back? Isn't it OGR?

Ya, I thought so.

Anyway, welcome to the OGR team 😀
