Im suprised the ps2 can produce graphics this well:

I know it has nothing to do with pc gaming, but im suprised the ps2, a console that is like 5+ yrs is producing graphics that are probably just as good as most pc games. Think of it, the ps2 came out 5 yrs ago, back in 2000 the pc couldnt produce grpahics this well, meaning that ps2>pc?

You can't even compare a PS2 to a PC. They are two totally different things. They just happen to have gaming as the lone thing in common.

anyways hardware is always more advanced than software it takes a while for developers to figure out a systems potential and find out how to push it to the limit. Remember how the first ps2 games looked? horrible. However you look at them now and you say wow, although it was the exact same system with the exact same hardware. Your comment back in 2000 where pc's fell behind ps2 is true because consoles hold the latest technology for a time gap before comps take over again. Also pc games have been optimized to run on the majority of systems around due to the fact that not everyone has the exact same video card. If everyone had the same specific type of video card and running the same rigs in 2000 im sure games would have looked alot better now.

Makes you wonder what the xbox 360 can do. For a 300-400 dollar console....makes you think twice about spending money on a 600 dollar video card that does little for you. When I saw the MSRP of the 7800GTX the first thing that I thought was , "What are you, freaken nutts?". Why would I spend that cash for a video card that does nothing but sit in my tower? There are no games other than maybe BattleField 2 that uses it. Not unless you have a 21 inch LCD display.

Those shots are from a develoment box of some sort, possablity a PC. The gaphics won't look nearly that sharp on either a PS2 or an Xbox. Besides, at best that looks like FEAR with most all the options turned down or off.

Also remember current generation consoles(ps2, xbox, gc) are reaching the end of their lifespan and that is why games are looking better than ever before.

I think it looks quite nice and could have some satisfying action. I will forever have a hard time playing FPS games on a console but if this one is good I'll certainly give it a try.

Its all about how far away you sit. People sit very close to their monitors, which is why they have a much higher resolution. If you sat as close a a TV as you did to a monitor, PS2 graphics would suck beyond anything you could imagine.

only thing about pc gaming is that its annoying having to upgrade the components soo often.

i bought my 6600gt for source in April. Worked perfect, but I was waiting for BF2.

BF2 didnt play too well on it, so i bought the x800xl.

Now my x800xl won't be able to play games at full resolution soon.

i was either gonna buy a 7800GT or xbox 360, i decided with the 360 and I would buy the next generation of cards after the 7 Series

gran turismo 4 runs at 1080i on ps2, good framerate as well.

BTW, criterion, the makers of Black, said that Black will look better on PS2 than it will on Xbox.

imo, game developers can make graphics on ps2 shine (although not quite match up to gc or xbox quality), but only if they give the game their full dedication. as we know, game developers have a hard time programming the ps2 so that explains the lackluster graphics. notable examples of ps2 games with beautiful graphics are killzone (albeit some frame drop), god of war, mgs2, gt3 a-spec, ratchet and clank and so on. some (i think gamespot) even say that the ps2 re4 port from gc doesnt degrade in graphics quality at all.

GT4 can display at 1080i, but it isn't rendered at that.

Yeah, they are going crazy with the particle effects and the PS2 is a beast for that.

Those tectures dont look all that sharp and it looks blocky. Very short viewing distance too. But still looks good though.

Honestly that doesn't look bad at all. It might sound crazy, but it is comparable to the pc graphics. Anyways, consoles are practically computers for goodness sake.

It lacks bumpmaping, specular highlighting on the enviroment, and advanced shadowing common to modren PC games, and the texture resolutions and polygon counts on the eviroment are below current PC standards as well. However, the art itself is high quality and it is still a good looking game by all means, and all the distruction in that gameplay vid sure ooks like a lot of fun.

It looks like RtCW graphics... runs great on a geforce2mx...

Notice how every screenie has someone shooting in it. This makes the game look detailed, but the environment itself is really nothing special.
