okay, i'm stuck. i've successfully set up my home LAN to share my dial-up net connection before, but I can't seem to do it again now. my sharing went down when I upgraded my mobo and CPU on my main (Win2k) computer. apparently, win2k just hid all of the old hardware and saw my same NIC as (network adapter #2). I uninstalled the #1 adapter, but I can't seem to restore my sharing.
here's my setup:
Win2k machine:
Local Area Connection:
TCP/IP: IP address: 192.168.0.1 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 DNS address: my ISP's DNS server --> is this correct? should i leave it blank? i tried leaving it blank though, but still no go
client: WinME
TCP/IP -> network adapter
IP address: 192.168.0.2 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 gateway: 192.168.0.1 DNS: host: 192.168.0.1 address: my ISP's DNS server
--> is this correct? should it be 192.168.0.1?
the LAN is working fine, i can ping all units on my network. thing is, when my main machine is connected to the net, any ping to external addresses made by the client times out. but when the main is not connected to the net, client pings return: "reply from 192.168.0.1: destination host unreachable."
so it seems that (i could be wrong) the client accesses my main computer when the main isn't online, but it can't access my main when my main is online? is that correct? what am i doing wrong?
