I'm stuck with a large DDR2 investment... which CPU would be best for economy minded?

I just read Anand's article titled AMD's New Year Refresh: Athlon II X4 635, Phenom II X2 555, Athlon II X2 255 & Athlon II X3 440 and I'm interested in an all purpose pc which can display movies in a window while I do other work.

DDR2 isn't cheap anymore - you could sell it off and get something newer.

You don't need much to run video in a window while you do other stuff - any system that's not very, very old should be able to handle that.

this, definitely sell some and if you want, keep some for a build. i would probably go with a phenom II x4. some are really cheap if you search in the FS forums.

Look for 780G/785G DDR2 boards. There are lots of solid boards for $70~80, and you don't need a video card for watching movies with those. There usually are combo deals which bring down the prices even lower.

Frys has one, alternatively if you get a 78x motherboard you could unlock a dual or tri core processor into a full quad.
Or you could sell the DDR3 and go wherever you like.
