I'm Stuck HL2 (now with pics!!!)

I am nearing the end of HL2 and am on the "Our Benefactor" section. I just lost all my weapons except the gavity gun. I noticed that I can no longer jump???? Anyway I kill all the combine soldiers and come to a dead end with one hall way blocked by a shield and a generator (beam of light) in another direction. I read gamespots walkthrough and somehow I am supposed to destroy the core of that generator to bring down the shields.

How do I do this? I can't jump over the small wall to the generator room as my guy won't jump. I can't suck the core out with the gravity gun. I can't detroy the generator by throwing things in. What do I do????

Here is the branch where you receive your message from the doctor and can choose left or right path (very close to just getting new gravity gun, first road block)

Go straight (left) and you come to a wall. For whatever reason I can't jump on this level??? Can't get to core to shut down force field and can't jump the wall???

I don't remember the exact place you're talking about, but from just about any vertical beam of light/energy you can yank little "power balls".
There are a few places where those beams power sheilds, just yank the ball(s) out of the beam, and the shield will vanish.

On a sidenote, those balls, when "fired" with the gravgun will make excellent weapons

Ok... I'll try again. I was sitting there trying to grab the ball out of the generator but nothing was happening???? Maybe I'll try to get a screen shot (it's the first dead end you come to after getting the new gravity gun & hearing the doctor's second speech on the monitor).

Come to think of it, I don't remember not being able to jump either...
I still don't recognize that place, but that's probably because the citadel looked largely the same all the way through.

 

It's a known bug. I had it happen to me too. You have to restart the level. Sorry to break it to you

Yeah dwell is right, it's a bug. I had the same problem with not being able to jump, but restarting that level fixes it. The level is pretty easy, so it's not a big deal.

I don't know if it's a bug not being able to jump, but you CAN just pull one of the viewscreens off the wall and use it as a ramp to climb over an obstacle.

Climb up the "left" blocked passage.
