ok, ive had a home network many times before... and it hasnt given me to much guff, until now.

Ive set up everything correctly on both comps... (network settings, sharing, firewall stuff)

Now, the internet sharing works beautifully... im on the laptop right now that is leeching off the desktop.

why wouldnt everything else work??

the only problem i can think of is, on the desktop it gets an error when i try to download the windows update (possibly incompatible versions?) but then why would internet sharing work??

help plz

Have you tried connecting manually to the shares?
(START \ RUN then type: \\computername)

What OS and Service Pak?

Any firewall software installed (ZoneAlarm, McAfee Personal Firewall, Norton Intarweb Security, etc.)? Most personal firewall software is not configured to allow file/printer sharing by default, so if you have a firewall program try disabling it and see if it clears up the issue.
