I've never been a fan of rap music but I know who 50 cent is and I've even watched his movie.

Just the other day I ran into this article on wordpress and after watching the documentary, I'm starting to respect the guy more!

Now, I am never easily convinced that people have good intentions until they truly show it, and while it's great that he's doing this, it wasn't the fact that he was doing humanitarian work that made me say "wow". In the documentary, it was when they asked him to sing a song. Most rappers would bust out rapping, "cracka ho, cracka, head, dope slanging, dope ranging", but 50-cent said that it was inappropriate given the reason why he was there.

So it's things like this that makes me respect the man. Good job dude!

Now only if we can get more rappers to elevate their lyrics.

<- fan of Lupe Fiasco, Matisyahu, Talib Kweli, and Fort Minor

My dad was on an airplane once (years back) and struck up a conversation with the guy next to him. They introduced themselves, got talking about music and my dad said he was a jazz musician. The guy said, "awww, man. I'm a musician too and I've always wanted to be in jazz, but you gotta go where the money is."

As they were getting off the guy said, "oh, by the way. If you ever want to come catch a show, my stage name is 50 cent."

So apparently he's a real nice down to earth guy who would rather be doing jazz. :)

I respect 50 cent a lot. While his rap is mainstream (which is totally cool with me) apparently his work ethic is amazing. The one quote that stuck out to me is that he doesn't care if he alienates his main music consumer base: why? He has succeeded big time with other businesses and apparently, he oversees them himself, he doesn't hire someone to manage his businesses.

I'll try and find the movie I watched about him.

The guy probably makes enough money from rapping about how poor he is that he could buy the whole country out of poverty if he wanted to.

Heard a story that really puts this guy into perspective by Eric Thomas.

When 50 was filming his movie, he was also making an album. So whenever he wasn't on set, he was in the studio. Whenever he wasn't in the studio, he was on set. They asked when he slept and he said he didn't. He said "Sleep is for those people who are broke".

Howard Stern has had him in studio a few times for interviews and he's always an interesting dude and a good interview.
