Now I know what kind of people buy Gateway computers. I've been wondering about that for a long long time.

Wish my parents would have bought me a brand new computer, regardless of the hardware, when I was 15 years old.

You want something nice, save up and buy it yourself.

I can imagine the frustration of watching your parents buy a (relative) piece of crap. For now, I suggest you make do and try to upgrade as you can. Maybe get a summer job and use the money to build your own system (and without your parents' input hehe). You'll have more satisfaction that way, too :)

I think you guys are missing the fact that this is a *family* computer. Not purchased solely for the OP. OP seems pissed that he is the one that knows about technology, and his n00b parents bought an inadequate PC without consulting him / listening to his opinions on any of it. From the post, seems that Dad will be using it for gaming just as much as OP will.

My own parents used to do stuff like that, and got burned a few times buying things that either didn't do what they wanted or didn't function properly - because they didn't know enough about it. Now they consult me before buying anything :D.

whats the big deal? Just buy a used $100 9800 pro and slap it in there. That machine will run HL2 just fine. Quit crying and get over it.

plus, what kind of machine are you building that costs $1500 anyways? Since when did you need a SLI system with a FX-55 core to run HL2? I can understand if you said $600-700.... jeez you are a spoiled brat.

It's good to vent ones problems, however as I see it you are the problem. All I can read is how you want this, that and the other thing. You have yet to do anything to help out the situation. Have you tried to assist in buying the computer besides looking at items on the net? Go out and cut lawns, collect cans, wash cars, something to assist.

Maybe this will teach them not to waste their god damn money on suckass computers in the future without consulting me first. Idiots.
This statement really shows great respect for your parents.... They probally did this because they do not have the cash to buy $1500.00 worth of computer items. Perhaps wanting to see you happy they purchased the computer thinking that it was a good deal and also it was something they could afford.

I'm going to see how much this cost them.

I do appreciate the gesture, but 8 years with a crappy prebuilt (Gateway) computer, and with my being the premier tech-head in the household, it would have been nice if they listened to me, or at least consulted me. Morons.

As for the cost, it is not your business, when you get a job and assist with the bills then you have earned the right to know such things. You may or may not be the "premier tech-head in the household" that remains to be seen, you do seem to be the baby of the family though. You my friend seem to be the only Moron in this situation. Be happy for what you have, save your money and change out the vid card add the RAM and your set.

My point was that the *good* versions are still cheap as hell and will run HL2 *better* than the crap versions. :p

That is true but I don't agree that $200 for a video card is considered "cheap". (mainly because thats how much I shelled out for mine and I'm broke as hell now. lol)

You are one spoiled 15 year old! Yeah, show your parents how much they suck!!!:|:|
If you were my kid, I'd send the computer back and tell you to save your money for a car because I won't be buying you sh!t from now on.

STFU or leave home (to save your parents some grief) :disgust:
